Joel Pentz focuses his practice on providing sophisticated legal and business counseling, advice and representation to a broad range of business clients, with
emphasis on all aspects of real estate, corporate, finance and general business matters. He advises and counsels with a business based approach, highlighted by
analytical analysis, creative problem solving, cost-effective solutions and consistent communication to attain goals and objectives.
Mr. Pentz has significant experience working with clients ranging from start-ups to public companies, in various industries, on matters relating to: real property
acquisitions and divestitures, development, environmental, financing, leasing and joint venturing; lender and borrower side financing, modifications and workouts; asset and
stock transactions; business formation and start-up issues; private equity financing and investment; traditional and non-traditional financing; corporate governance; and general
business counseling, deal structuring, negotiating and transaction documentation. He has had a leadership role in the management and coordination of large scale, transformational
public redevelopment and public finance projects, and structuring, negotiating and closing private sector transactions, valued in excess of $1 billion.
Prior to returning to the Firm in 2010, Mr. Pentz held the position of General Counsel of the Cleveland-Cuyahoga County Port Authority where he was a member of the Senior Management Team, with
direct responsibility for management and oversight of all legal matters, government and legislative affairs, advocacy strategies and environmental and sustainability initiatives. While at the Port, he
had significant involvement in urban waterfront redevelopment, urban industrial redevelopment, general economic development and public finance projects. Additionally, he led significant stakeholder engagement
in Washington D.C., Columbus, Ohio and Northeast Ohio with elected and appointed government and agency officials, trade organizations, foundations, the business community, press and media, and the public at large.
He is a member of the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association, the Ohio State Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Urban Land Institute and the Leadership Cleveland Class of 2010.
